Everlight and Laster Tech Eye LED Automotive Lighting Market in Thailand

Several LED lighting manufacturers interviewed at LED Expo Thailand 2015, which took place from May 21-24, 2015 at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center showed interest in entering the Thailand LED automotive lighting sector, including Taiwanese LED manufacturers Everlight and Laser Tech.

Thailand is a major car manufacturing base in Southeast Asia, with many top car brands such as Toyota, Benz and BMW with factories set up there, said Sean Zhou Regional Marketing Director, Lumileds. The country manufactures an estimated 2 million cars per year, said Minister of Energy Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee.

Everlight interest in the local automotive lighting market was clearly reflected in the automotive lighting products it displayed at the show including high-power LEDs for headlights, 4-chip and 5-chip package series, daytime running lights, fog lights and LEDs for taillight applications. The company was the only LED manufacturer showcasing automotive lighting products at the show last week.

According to a company press release, the company’s optical technology allows the light to converge in close proximity to a single light source, thus providing much clearer cut-off line for headlight optics.

“We are currently in talks with other companies in the automotive lighting and LED display market,” said Richard Chiu, Associate Section Chief, Overseas Division, Emerging Market Management Department, Everlight.

In the current phase, the company is aiming at aftermarket demand market, since the process in the original equipment market usually takes up three quarters to one year, Chiu added.

The company also has the production capacity for LED headlights, and a manufacturing base in China.

Although, U.S. LED chip maker Lumileds did not showcase its automotive lighting products at the show, the company is already active in Thailand’s automotive lighting sector.

Lumileds is involved in the local OE and AM markets for daylight running lamp, taillights, turn signal lights, for headlight applications, and can be found in applications such as BMW S600 high beam lights, said Sean Zhou, the company’s Regional Marketing Director.
