Trending CSP technology

Previously, LEDinside analysts forecasted Chip Scale Package (CSP) will be under the LED industry spotlight in 2014. This trend was definitely observed at Toshiba’s booth as the company displayed several chip package products. The company displayed an ultra-small GaN-on-Si LED chip with the dimensions 0.65 x 0.65mm. Despite its mini dimensions, the chip is capable of reaching 130 lm/W, and run under a forward current of up to 180 mA (max). The narrow beam LED has a color temperature of 5,000K and a CRI of 80.

Two other GaN-on-Si white LED chips showcased at the show included 3.5 x 3.5 mm lens package 1W type TL1L2 series and 3.0 x 3.0 mm flat package 0.6W type TL3GB. Both products are specifically targeted at lighting applications. Forward voltages are realized at 2.85V at 350mA (TL1L2-Series) and 5.76V at 100 mA (TL3GB-series).The products that have above 118lm/W luminous efficacy fall in the color range of 2,700 K to 6, 500K, and were mass produced as of March 2014.

Mona Lisa smiles safely under LEDs

LED luminaires designed specifically to light up Leonardo Da Vinci’s master piece Mona Lisa also caught visitors attention. A replica of the famous Mona Lisa was displayed under dim ambient lighting at the show. The lighting solution was especially developed by the Japanese manufacturer for the Louvre Museum in Paris. Several breakthroughs were made in LED to prevent the painting from wilting like Van Gogh’s Sunflowers under intense bright light.

The light uses 34 LEDs suppresses UV and IR radiation due to protective glazing and ambient lighting. Various optical systems are included in the lamp to frame the painting and maintain high uniformity. The Mona Lisa LED lights are capable of reaching CRI above 95 and in a color range of 2,800K to 3,000K. For luminaire specs please see photo below.

Future OLED Solutions

The company also displayed latest OLED products. The transparent OLED products displayed offer directional lighting, which sets it apart from conventional OLED panels. According to Toshiba, the luminaires can emit light on one side while remaining transparent on the other.
