UVLrx Therapeutics announces that it has received CE marking to commercially sell its UVLrx 1500 multi-wavelength, intravenous light therapy system in the European Union. The UVLrx 1500 System offers the first intravenous, concurrent delivery of ultraviolet-A (UVA) and multiple visible light wavelengths. Using the company’s patent pending Dry Light Adapter™ and a standard I.V. catheter, the UVLrx 1500 eliminates the need for removal of blood from the body.

New LED lamps in a glow filament design as well as a replacement for halogen lamps being phased out from 2016 are now available for the 2015/2016 lighting season. Osram is starting with a range of further LED lamp developments for the new lighting season that traditionally begins in October. At the same time, the lighting manufacturer supports the efforts of its trade partners with a renewed LED competition for consumers.

Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced that it has developed a new 2-megapixel (MP) CMOS image sensor for automotive cameras, “CSA02M00PB”, equipped with the industry’s first*1 LED flicker mitigation function. Sample shipments start in March, 2016. The new sensor will be exhibited at the 22nd ITS World Congress 2015 in Bordeaux, France, from October 5 to 9.

Osram Opto Semiconductors has expanded the product portfolio of its Osram Ostar Stage family. The four chips of the new high-power LED in red, green, blue and white can be operated at up to 2.5 ampere (DC) thanks to improved chip technologies. This leads to twice the output of 30 watts (electric) from the same chip and package area compared to the existing version, adding another output class to the product family. The new LEDs were developed primarily for use in stage spotlights.

Panasonic Corporation today announced that it has developed a blue-violet semiconductor laser operating at output power of 4.5 W, which is 1.5 times higher than that of the conventional one even at 60ºC, the maximum operating temperature for lasers in general.　 It can also oscillate with the high energy conversion efficiency, which is 1.2 times higher than that of conventional lasers. This has been made possible by Panasonic’s unique double heat flow packaging technology that improves the heat dissipation. This newly-developed laser will help laser application systems, such as vehicle and industrial lighting as well as laser machining equipment, to be made smaller and consume less power.

Power management company Eaton today announced that its light-emitting diode (LED) lighting solutions with an Integrated Sensor Control System is enhancing the lighting performance and aesthetics at the Atlanta-based corporate headquarters of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). Osram Opto Semiconductors is unveiling an LED prototype in surface mount technology (SMT) with a brightness of up to 2000 lumen (lm) at ISAL 2015 – the Oslon Black Flat S. Experts achieved this high output by combining five chips from the latest UX:3 generation with an improved SMT package. A single LED is therefore sufficient as the light source for combined low-beam and high-beam systems. The excellent thermal connection with the package allows for passive cooling, which reduces system costs. The Oslon Black Flat S is consequently a viable alternative to HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamps and is scheduled to be added to the Osram automotive portfolio at the end of 2016.

Plessey announced that it has developed a patented technology for Chip Scale Optics (CSO) based on its award winning GaN-on-Silicon MaGIC ™ LEDs.  Chip Scale Optics permits design of light emission angles down to ten degrees direct from the LED.  Having the primary optics on-chip eliminates the cost of primary optics typically found in packaged LEDs and chip-on-board modules.  Furthermore, it significantly lowers the cost and provides for far greater design freedom for secondary optics within a luminaire.  The first off applications include retail spot lighting, hospitality lighting, high and low bays, street lighting and stadium lighting.  It is estimated that Plessey’s chip scale optics will halve the cost of these lighting applications.
