【CES 2020】Sony Introduces Its First EV Vision-S and Advanced Display Technologies

Worldwide big names are trying hard to impress visitors at CES 2020 with their new technology. At SONY’s CES press conference, the Japan tech giant created a sensation by demonstrating its first electric vehicle, Vision-S. The company also presented its Micro LED display and new Master Series TVs. In addition, SONY announced that PlayStation 5 will be launched this year.

Integrating several of its proprietary sensing technologies, SONY worked together with automotive component company Magna, and collaborated with automotive driving technology suppliers including Bosch, Continental, NVIDIA, Qualcomm and more to build Vision S.

The concept vehicle adopts 33 cameras and sensors covering CMOS camera, LiDAR sensors, ToF sensors and others to detect people and objects inside the car. Relevant data are collected to optimize human-machine interactions with the car for safety and comfort improvement.

Apart from electric vehicle, SONY also showcased a 4K, 220-inch Micro LED display. Despite that the specification of the Micro LED display did not change compared to the one last year, SONY said that it plans to reduce the selling price for end users for market expansion. According to on-site staff, SONY’s Micro LED display costs about US$ 1 million in North America with installation and 2-year warranty included.

SONY launched new Master Series TVs as well. The new models achieve dynamic dimming zone via Backlight Master Driving technology to deliver high contrast images. The company also enhanced its LCD TVs to 98 inches with 8K resolution.
