Highlights of the week:

LEDinside team would like to wish everyone Happy International Worker’s Day!

  • Nichia plans to appeal Michigan jury decision to invalidate LED patents. Everlight's victory in the U.S. court could take down Nichia patent barrier in the North America market, and open up the export market gates for Asian LED manufacturers, said LEDinside analysts. The company also announced it had won two patent infringement lawsuits respectively the joint lawsuit filed by Everlight and Emcore, and a second lawsuit by Bluestone Innovation.
  • Earlier rumors surrounding the spin-off of Philips OLED business proved true. OLEDworks announced this week it had acquired selective key OLED component business from Philips.
  • Osram split with its traditional lighting business and LED Lighting Solutions has become official following the company board approval.
  • The Apple Watch now can be used to control Philips Hue LED bulbs, but if you have a wrist tattoo it might complicate things a bit. Apparently, the Apple Watch’s green LEDs cannot take an accurate pulse because light reflected off from blood vessels is obstructed by black or red ink underneath the skin.
