AIXTRON AG today announced an order from Jiangxi Changda, a new customer in the southern province of PR China. Jiangxi Changda has ordered two AIX 2800G4 HT 2 inch MOCVD tools. The new HB GaN LED growth reactors have been successfully installed and commissioned by the local AIXTRON support team at the company’s facility.

Recently, Oxford Instruments-TDI, has entered into a licensing agreement with The Fox Group. Eulitha AG, a Swiss based nanolithography company, has developed a proprietary photolithography technology for low-cost and high-throughput fabrication of photonic nanostructures. This solves a major ongoing problem faced in the fabrication of high-resolution photonic structures since standard photolithography equipment either lacks the required resolution or its cost is prohibitively high.

AIXTRON AG has announced a new order for an MOCVD reactor from MicroLink Devices, Inc., USA, a company engaged in the manufacture of HBT devices and the development of III-V solar cells.

Toshiba Electronics Europe has launched two collections of LED drivers, the 16-channel TC62D748 and TC62D749, which deliver constant currents between 1.5 and 90mA and offer high-speed serial data transfer rates up to 25MHz.   Both of them are designed for the control of LED modules and LED displays built around multiple LED strings.

A performance art group, Phase 7, has debuted their brand new interactive LED installation in Berlin, which brings LED lighting effects to the ground itself, which will interact with those who step on it. It's said that Phase 7 created something like this back in 2008. And this time, the performance group has unveiled the Onskebronn, which is Norwegian for 'wishing well.'

London's Samuel Wilkinson has designed blown glass LED lamps, the Vessel Series 01-03 collection to accommodate the artistic LED bulb creations from Hulger. This Vessel Series 01-03 includes two lamps that can be used either as a pendant or hanging lamp plus a table light.

This is a database containing 350 different lens types from seven of the world’s largest lens manufacturers. It provides comprehensive information so the right lenses can be selected for each particular application.

LED manufacturer Optogan GmbH  announced the appointment of Markus Zeiler as General Manager of Global Sales & Marketing. Optogan Group, an innovative manufacturer of LEDs and luminaires is driving forward its sales activities by filling the new top management position. Markus Zeiler (36), who can provide a decade of broad experience within LED sales, marketing and engineering at a global level, will oversee the expansion of Optogan to worldwide operations.

Philips Electronics India Ltd has released new range of LED consumer bulbs, a 5W retrofit bulb along with the 2W candle and 7WSpotlight bulbs for various lighting applications inside homes for the Indian market. According to the company, the new range of bulbs are not only upto 80% energy efficient compared to traditional  incandescent bulbs but also are capable of producing better quality and more versatile lighting and has life of about 15 years.

Philips has launched 15 models of LEDs, 8 models of LCDs and 5 models of ultra slim TVs, which it said would redefine the premium television market in India. The price range of the LED TVs starts from Rs.26,500, while that of LCD TVs from Rs.16,499. The price range for ultra slim TVs starts from Rs.5,290. According to the company, it also will launch its flat panel TV range under the flagship model Cinema 21:9 TV, world's first cinema proportion 3D LED pro TV with ambilight. 

Sweden nanowire semiconductor LED developer GLO AB has closed an SEK 170 million investment round (approximately USD 25 million), and set up a California-based engineering center to supplement its current efforts in Sweden and Denmark.

It's reported that a new 4000K CCT ANSI binned part has been added to LUXEON Rebel product portfolio by Philips Lumileds. At the same time, Philips Lumileds has also raised the top flux bin for its cool and neutral white LUXEON Rebel by 20%.   The new part delivers improved color rendering and tight binning to simplify luminaire designers' engineering efforts.  

Valeo and its partner in Japan, Ichikoh, have developed a new generation of LED front lighting systems, unveiled as a world premiere on the Nissan Leaf Electric Vehicle. The Alliance's engineers have designed a cost-effective LED-based headlamp, combining enhanced illumination close to daylight and distinctive style. While the Nissan Leaf LED headlamp is cost and energy efficient, it delivers a high level of performance, with brighter light color on the road and a longer life span.

Philips Lumileds has increased the light output specifications as well as lowered forward voltage for LUXEON Rebel LED Portfolio to satisfy the customer needs. It's said that the company's red and red-orange LUXEON Rebel LEDs now generate 40% more light and are 50% more efficient. Its blue LEDs have the best hot/cold factor which delivers superior in-application results and delivers leading lumens per Watt. Royal Blue typically delivers 875 mW at 700 mA .

Waikato, New Zealand has played a national competition, which was part of the RightLight campaign to promote the purchasers of energy efficient light bulbs to enter the prize draw. Craig Benton, of St Andrews, Hamilton, who was a Waikato resident ,has won $10,000 energy efficiency home makeover by purchasing three different efficiency light bulbs in this competition. It's reported that the first part of his prize will be a home efficiency audit, which will identify a range of energy saving options for Mr Benton to spend his prize on.

Austriamicrosystems has announced two collections of new LED driver ICs, the AS3695A -- a 16-channel white LED driver for direct lighting -- and the AS3695C -- a 16-channel white LED controller for edge lighting. With the new productions, Austriamicrosystems extends its portfolio of LED backlight unit drivers and controllers for the latest generation of LCD TVs.

Golden DRAGON Plus and OSLON SSL LEDs with their efficiency of 37% are among the most efficient light sources on the market in the deep red range (660 nm wavelength). Operators of commercial greenhouses will benefit from the high efficiency and the associated energy savings the new LEDs can deliver. In cooperation with Fionia Lighting A/S in Denmark a pilot project covering several thousand square meters of planting achieved energy savings of 40%.
