Valeo and its partner in Japan, Ichikoh, have developed a new generation of LED front lighting systems, unveiled as a world premiere on the Nissan Leaf Electric Vehicle. The Alliance's engineers have designed a cost-effective LED-based headlamp, combining enhanced illumination close to daylight and distinctive style. While the Nissan Leaf LED headlamp is cost and energy efficient, it delivers a high level of performance, with brighter light color on the road and a longer life span.

Brand Neue Corp. announced the opening of the InteLEDgent Lighting Solutions Inc. Canadian LED Lighting Distribution Center in Edmonton, Alberta.

At the beginning of 3Q 2010,LED packaging house Ledtech Electronics thought its low temperature light bars revenues had lowed 10% sequentially because of drop orders. But revenues for 4Q 2010 were planed to pick up as clients prepared for the demand during the summer of 2011.

The South Korean steel industry giant POSCO announced to participate in the LED Industry. The new venture's headquarters will be in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. The new company is comprise of POSCO ICT (63.3 percent), the IT and engineering arm of POSCO steel, POSCO Steel (16.7-percent) and Seoul Semiconductor (20 percent).And  POSCO ICT CEO Hur Nam-suk will have leadership responsibility for the venture.

Tong Hsing Electronic Industries (THEIL) planed to increase more it’s LED thin-film ceramic substrates production lines and kept LED thin-film ceramic substrates growing. Now, The Company has produced 400,000 LED ceramic substrates every month, in which included Taiwan 300,000 units and Philippines 100,000 units. Soon, Tong Hsing will add a new capacity of 50,000 units will come online.

Energy Smart Industry (ESI) announces the launch of LED outdoor lights under its energy efficiency program. The company has been providing with different lighting solutions in the past that cater to industries with different requirement and has helped many of them in reducing their electricity bills.

The first screen of its kind, the Diamond Vision OLED, measuring 8.8sqm (3.84 m (w) by 2.3 m (h)) with a depth of just 9.9cm, has been installed at the material Research Center recently opened by the chemical and pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany. The new technology is a pioneering step forward, using organic light emitting diodes (OLED) as a light source, which due to its structure and composition is fully scalable and can be arranged into flexible forms and shapes.

Lately, Edison Opto had planed to be listed in Taiwan on September 10 but was delayed due to some reason. But Edison had noted that Lustrous lawsuit had little impact on the company's finances and operations. In the August 31st of 2010, Lustrous Technology had filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Edison, and Edison had hired an professional patent attorney for the lawsuit.

Recently, Tatung planed to low LED-backlit LCD TV price, 32-inch LCD TV from around NT$30,000 down to NT$24,900 (US$793),and 42-inch LCD TV from about NT$ 43,900 slipping to NT$34,900.while Taiwan suppliers planed to display new LED TV models in the next two months.

ANC Sports Enterprises installed a new light emitting diode signage (LED) system at the Cintas Center, Xavier University’s multipurpose sports and entertainment arena. The signage system is highlighted by a center-hung scoreboard which features eight LED video displays and a 42’ long circular LED ribbon. The structure is nearly 18 feet tall and weighs approximately 14,700 pounds.

One of China largest manufacturers of consumer electronics devices, Sichuan Changhong Electric has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Fairchild Semiconductor. Under the MOU, Changhong has committed to fulfilling purchasing target plans for Fairchild's leading-edge power and mobile components through December 2015.

According to the managing director of OLED Association, Barry Young, Samsung choose Dr. H. K. Chung to lead the start-up of their OLED program. Due to Chung's contributions to the whole OLED community as well as his leadership in R&D and manufacturing of OLED displays for Samsung SDI, the predecessor to Samsung Mobile Displays (SMD), Young presented Chung with the first Annual OLED Leadership Award before the twelfth annual OLED World Summit.

Recently, LED chipmaker Lumitek started trading on Taiwan's emerging stock market, with paying for NT$360 million (US$11.46 million) .

Taiwan GlacialLight has signed an agreement and joined the Energy Star® Program. As an official partner, all marketing materials of GlacialLight are allowed to add the ENERGY STAR® Partner logo. According to the company, its products will be submitted to and tested by an independently administered third-party with a lab report, and the performance data must be accredited and approved by the international safety standards in order to use the ENERGY STAR® certification mark on the product packaging.

Peter Ngai, the company's Vice President of Research and Development, will present "An Accelerated Performance Roadmap for OLED Lighting," to discuss the design, performance and sustainability requirements needed from OLED panel manufacturers for the technology to be viable in general lighting and illumination applications.

South Korea LG Electronic schedules to take at least a 10 per cent share in Japan's LED TV market within three years.

Recently, Mitsubishi Kagaku Media Co.,Ltd has begun to sell its Verbatim brand LED light bulbs in the European market. This new LED bulbs were shown at the IFA 2010 consumer electronics before. And they are based on technologies developed by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation.

The state environment department of Kolkata, India is urging organizers to go for LED lamps. According to an officer of the department, a lot of Puja organizers have taken up the LED issue because they realize they can save a lot of money in the long run. "Naturally, we will save a lot on electricity bills if we use LED bulbs," said Partha Ghosh of Shibmandir Puja Committee near Southern Avenue.

It's reported that the U.S. Department of Energy has named the winners of its eighth annual Lighting for Tomorrow competition, which aims to bridge that gap by showcasing LED fixture design for homes and other small-scale uses such as offices, restaurants and retail stores. And the focus was on new high efficiency LED designs that could help cut lighting energy use by 25 percent.

Vancouver-based Carmanah Technologies announced to buy Israeli LED company Lightech Electronic Industries Ltd. outstanding shares for $18.5 million. And this is expected to close in November 2010.

ED packager Harvatek recently entered the supply chain for TV backlighting, and inventory adjustments by TV vendors had less affected on it. The company expected its September revenues will reach NT$400 million (US$12.67 million) and 3Q revenues got over NT$1 billion benefit from Japan-based TV vendors’ orders. In Harvatek’s revenues, handset business accounted for about 40-45% and lighting business accounted for about 15%, over 20% for IT (notebook and monitor) products.

Recently, LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Genesis Photonics has began construction for its joint venture with the Kunshan city government in China. The first stage engineering of the joint venture will host 50 sets of MOCVD machines. In the new factory, Genesis has held 51% stake, and Kunshan city government has held the other stake. The new factory will start production in Q3 of 2011 and will be the largest LED chip and lighting manufacturing base in China.

Sony Ericsson has named Everlight, the best "Electronics Supplier" of the year in 2009, at Sony Ericsson's recent annual supplier conference in Beijing in September 2010. It's said that Everlight took the lead of more than 50 other Sony Ericsson electronics' suppliers.

Xodtec LED, Inc., a Taiwan-based LED lighting solutions and products provider, has appointed Yuan-Fu Cheng as its new Chief Financial Officer. It reported that Mr. Yuan-Fu Cheng previously served as chief financial officer of SiPix Group, a producer of electronic paper and display solutions, from September 2005 through July 2010.

Recently, the United States Coast Guard has ordered totaling over $1.1 million from Carmanah Technologies Corporation as part of an ongoing Coast Guard initiative to replace incandescent lanterns with self-contained solar LED lanterns.   More than 2,500 Carmanah/Sabik M700 series solar LED marine lanterns are scheduled for delivery to Coast Guard stations in 25 US states along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, and the Mississippi, Gulf of Mexico and Great Lakes regions.
