On Tuesday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced updated standards for light fixtures to qualify for the Energy Star label. According to EPA, effective Oct. 1, to receive Energy Star endorsement, light fixtures will need to increase efficiency 30 percent above currently qualified fluorescent-based fixtures. It’s said that Pittsburgh is about to replace about 3,000 streetlights in the city's 50 business districts with LED bulbs within 10 months. According to Councilman, the effort would be expanded to the rest of the city, which has nearly 40,000 streetlights, during the next few years. The National Defence Academy (NDA) of India has decided to replace about one lakh lights with LED lamps in key establishments of the academy for energy saving. At present, The NDA has nearly 3,100 street lamps, mostly sodium or mercury vapour lights ranging from 75 watts to 250 watts.
