It’s reported that China Intelligent Lighting and Electronics has set up an approximately 215,000 square feet facility in Huizhou, China. The company has invested approximately US$1.0 million in five new production lines for the new space, including a production line for LED street lamp components. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, due to a potential fire hazard, around 42,000 LED lamps which are made by Maine-based Eco-Story are being recalled voluntarily. When used with a Class II transformer, the lamp can overheat and cause a fire risk. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, but there have been two reports of overheating. Taiwan Delta Electronics was reported to target to significant growth in LED lighting shipments in 2011. Taiwan LED packaging manufacturer VisEra Technologies is reported to put its manufacturing emphasis on high-power packages dedicated to light bulbs in 2011.  At present, the company produces 2,000 200mm wafers of packages a month, roughly equal to four million packages. It’s said that city of Novato is in the process of conducting a streetlight test to get public feedback in its selection of energy-efficient fixtures. Four LED fixtures have been installed between Rowland Boulevard and Adele Drive, and four induction fixtures were installed between Arthur Drive and Yukon Way. All lights being considered would reduce monthly energy costs by about 40 percent and reduce routine maintenance costs three to four times that of the current fixtures.

Taiwan Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA) has recently predicted that the local LED industry will grow at a moderate pace in 2011. According to PIDA , the output value of the global LED industry grew an increase of 68 percent from US$9 billion in 2009 to US$15.1 billion in 2010, and the number will further increase by 38 percent to US$20.8 billion in 2011.

AIXTRON SE today announced an order from mainland China. HC SemiTek placed an order for six additional CRIUS® Gallium Nitride epitaxial growth reactors. The six machines in the 31x2-inch wafer configuration have been delivered to the company’s modern facility in Wuhan.

LED chipmaker Formosa Epitaxy 's December revenues fell 25% sequentially to NT$300 million (US$10.23 million), and revenues for 4Q10 came to NT$1.1 billion, down 23% sequentially. But the company's full-year revenues increased 121.5% from 2009 to NT$4.64 billion thanks to strong TV backlight demand.

It’s reported that "Megatex", a Bulgarian LED and LCD technologies company has developed a screen combining LED technology with renewable solar energy, which can be mounted at places without electric power supply. The panel has a 5 KW power to charge the screen. The new screen will be used outdoors and can be installed on stadiums; it can be used for concerts or as a billboard.
