Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE) expands its family of high-power color LEDs with the availability of XLamp® XP-C color LEDs in royal blue, blue, green, amber, red-orange and red. These new XP-C LEDs are 10-to-50 percent brighter than Cree’s previous midrange color LEDs. XLamp XP-C color LEDs are designed for 0.5-watt to 1-watt operation and can provide a cost-effective solution for many color lighting applications. In addition, XP-C LEDs are often compatible with existing optical designs, potentially reducing system design costs.

AIXTRON AG today announced an order from its long-time customer, Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) located in Freiburg, Germany. IAF has ordered one AIX 2800G4 HT, 11x4 inch MOCVD tool which it will be using for GaN on SiC for high power, high frequency applications to enable commercialization of GaN devices in the near future. The IAF placed its order in the fourth quarter of 2009 and AIXTRON’s support team will install and commission the new reactor at their laboratory in the third quarter of 2010.

AIXTRON AG announced an order for one Black Magic CNT (carbon nanotube) deposition system from the Eidgenössische Materialprüfungs- und Forschungsanstalt (EMPA), Switzerland. Tyco Electronics today released the new IDC SSL connector for quick, tool-less termination of discrete wires onto LED printed circuit boards (PCBs).  The product terminates 18 through 24 AWG solid and stranded wire utilizing insulation displacement technology to eliminate the labor-intensive task of pre-stripping wires and soldering.
