Epileds and High Power Lighting jointly launch Bioraytron for UV-C LED Applications

The value of the global market for disinfection reaches US $ 500 billion with applications across residential market, medical and industrial areas. The emergence of energy-efficient products and policy of mercury prohibition contribute to the high value of disinfection industry, enabling deep UV LED products one of market strategy in entering niche markets.

Epileds, an UV and IR LED chip and High Power Lighting, manufacturer of LED packages and modules are optimistic about the potential DUV LEDs hold. The two companies reached agreement to actively develop and deploy a Taiwan-based DUV LED supply chain. Epileds and High Power Lighting announced at a product conference at the end of 2016 the joint venture company named Bioraytron. The joint company will enable vertical integration of DUV LED applications, starting from epitaxy to LED chip manufacturing while focusing on the sales of UV-C LED packages and modules.

Bioraytron actively researches on market demand and has learned that the ideal disinfection combination can be made with deep UV-C LED at less than 275nm under high radiation mW/cm2. The main target clients include disinfection of water, air, surface and medical equipment.

The AIN on sapphire epitaxy that are manufactured by Epileds with flip-chip LED technology range from 265nm-275nm. Meanwhile, High Power Lighting adopts copper, aluminum or quartz glass with beam angle at 120, 60 and 30 at 1.2W input power (150mA and 6-10V) to realize 10mW. Under circumstance of 10mm illuminance, the more intense the beam angle is, the stronger the radiation will be. For instance, under beam angles at 120 and 30 degrees, the radiation intensity is to rise from 2.8 mW/cm2 to 25mW/cm2. The company is to release customized UV-C LED modules for industrial water disinfection in 1Q17. UV-C LED products provide flexibility that cater to market applications and clients’ demand.

As DUV LED market holds huge potential, Bioraytron has established precise market strategies for DUV market throughout the period of 2016-2020. According to Bioraytron’s production capacity plan, the company is expected to produce up to 5,0 million DUV LEDs by 2020, raising WPE from 3-5% in 2017 to 20-25% in 2020. In view of market development strategy, the company’s short-term target applications include home appliances, food processing, sanitaryware, kitchen equipment and consumer electronics. As of 2018, the company’s will focus on medical disinfection for medical equipment. Following that, Bioraytron is to work toward UVC LEDs for industrial and high-tech applications in 2019-2020. Meanwhile, the company will also provide products with superior price competitiveness while boosting LED chip efficiency and production capacity.
