Osram Expands in Entertainment Lighting with ADB Acquisition

Osram is expanding its leading market position in the entertainment sector and has acquired certain assets from ADB TTV SAS to continue its business operations. The acquired business will become integral part of Osram’s subsidiary Clay Paky. ADB is a French company which specializes in lighting for theaters and TV studios based in Saint Quentin. The transaction was completed on 3 August 2016. “With the acquisition of ADB TTV SAS’ business and the highly reputable ADB brand, we will expand our position in the innovation-driven entertainment lighting market”, said Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO of Osram's Specialty Lighting business unit.

Bolton Council in UK Streetlight Refit Project on Schedule

More than half of Bolton’s street lamps have now switched over to new LED lighting - and work is on target to finish in 2018. Replacement work continues throughout the borough and almost 15,000 lights in 2,463 streets have been upgraded, since the rollout began in April last year. Approximately 26,000 lights on residential streets and main roads are being replaced with lower carbon LED lanterns.

Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation, announced that the European Patent Office (EPO) rejected a request to revoke patent EP-1556443. The acquisition of the year happened on Tuesday, when Osram stated top Chinese LED chip package manufacturer MLS along with two other investors absorbed its general lighting business, LEDVANCE. If you had been following LEDinside since last November, MLS General Manager Lawrence Lin had spoken on multiple occasions about ongoing talks, and that it was close to sealing the deal just a couple weeks ago. Osram authorized trademark usage and as part of the deal MLS will be buying white LED chips from the German lighting giant’s plant in Malaysia once the fab enters mass production phase.

Dow reported earnings per share of $2.61, or operating earnings per share of $0.95. This compares with Earnings per Share (EPS) of $0.97 in the year-ago period, or operating EPS of $0.91. Certain Items in the quarter primarily reflected a $2.20 per share gain related to the Dow Corning ownership restructure and a $0.27 per share charge for costs associated with the restructuring plan announced in the quarter. The tax rate was impacted by Certain Items. Excluding these, the tax rate was within the Company’s modeling guidance.
