Architectural SSL announced today that Lumileds has won a 2018 Product Innovation Award (PIA) from Architectural SSL magazine for its line of Integrated Light Guides under the Matrix Platform Advanced Technologies.

Cree announced that the company intends to offer US$500 million aggregate principal amount of its Convertible Senior Notes due 2023 in a private offering to qualified institutional buyers. Cree has reported a revenue of US$409 million for its fourth quarter of fiscal 2018, ended June 24, 2018 with an increase of 14% YoY and 15% QoQ. The revenue for the whole fiscal year was US$ 1.49 billion, which represents a 1% increase YoY.

Osram has reported its financial result of the third quarter of its 2018 fiscal year* and announced the company’s plan to divest its luminaires business and to save cost for the coming years. 

Osram announced on July 31 that the company decided to initiate the sale of its luminaires business and to strategically focus on the high-growth market.

LG Innotek announced that the company has filed a lawsuit against Evergreat, a U.S. based UV nail dryer manufacturer, for patent infringement. The lawsuit alleges that Evergreat used LG Innotek's LED chip technology patents in all of its 10 UV nail dryer models without its permission. 

At New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, the Audubon Zoo opened a new exhibition named “Criaturas de la Noche” (Creatures of the Night) which is a transparent flyway installed with Altman’s Chalice LED series to create a night environment as a home for more than 200 bats. 

The U.S. based molded glass manufacturer Kopp Glass has announced its research“The Effects of UV Glass Optics on UV LED Arrays,” which presents how molded optics can be used to increase UV LED efficiency and performance.

On July 12, 2018 (Japan time), Nitride Semiconductor Co., Ltd. ("Nitride") filed a patent infringement lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court against Digi-Key Corporation d/b/a Digi-Key Electronics ("Digi-Key"), which sells UV-LED products on the internet that are manufactured by RayVio Corporation ("RayVio"), a CA-based UV-LED manufacturer, and RayVio. In the complaint, Nitride is seeking injunction(including destruction of infringing products) and damages, asserting that Digi-Key and RayVio infringe Nitride’s patent (JP 3,285,341, “Method for Manufacturing Gallium Nitride Compound Semiconductor”) by manufacturing and selling the UV-LED products

The luxury brand Louis Vuitton has been touring around the world with its exhibition “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez - Louis Vuitton” which tells the history of the brand. AIXTRON, a German deposition equipment supplier reported that the Chinese chip maker Changelight has ordered AIX 2800G4-TM MOCVD systems to expand its production capacities for arsenide-phosphide-based red, orange and yellow LEDs (ROY LED) and solar cells.

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has announced that the company will supply a Terminal Doppler Lidar system (DIABREZZATM A Series) to Côte d'Azur Airport in Nice, France with the cooperation of the French national meteorological service, Météo-France.
