Hi-Score Corporation announced the completion of the company's re-organization and acquisition of Green LED Solutions by its wholly owned subsidiary Green LED Technology. According to the acquisition agreement, Green LED Solutions is now merged with Green LED Technology, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hi Score Corp. This re-organization and acquisition will have the result of combining all rights and ownership of the current and pending contracts to the company.

Shuen Der Industry Co., Ltd. (SDI ), a Taiwanese supplier of LED lead frames for automotives and consumer electronics, has invested NT$80 million (US$2.46 million at US$1: NT$32.5) to expand output of the products.

Recently, BenQ has announced a couple of 16:9 LCD monitors that feature LED backlighting, the 21.5-inch V2210 and the 24-inch V2410 in Japan. Both new displays have a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 5ms response time, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 250 cd/m2 brightness, the Senseye image enhancement technology, plus DVI and HDMI outputs. BenQ has not yet reveal any prices but said that the V2210 will hit (Japanese) stores on December 25th, and the V2410 will follow on the 30th.

In the recently started ‘So-Light’ project eleven German companies and research institutes work closely together on Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs). The goal is to reach a leading position in the fast growing worldwide OLED market. The 14.7 Million Euro project is also financially supported by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research).

Yesterday, Rambus announced that it has acquired technology and patents related to LCDs and optoelectronics from Global Lighting Technologies (GLT) for US$26 million.

Samsung, South Korea’s largest PC maker, is preparing an onslaught of new product in the new year, with tablet PCs, more 3D and all monitors LED backlit by the end of 2010. Samsung will have those products in the future or coming into 2010. Samsung is also planning multitouch monitors and notebooks, as well as more 3D. The touchscreen monitors will likely be CCFL backlit to start, but later will be LED backlit.

Both Idemitsu Kotsan and Sumitomo executives in an article of the Financial Times, point out that "2012 will be the year when OLEDs hits the big times".

It’s said that GE and Israel's Power Paper will jointly-develop self-powered (battery) OLED Lighting. The project will combine Power Paper's paper-thin, flexible batteries with GE's OLEDs. The company says that the new OLED products will cost less, be more effective and will be reliable and shock-resistant.

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors today announced completion of the construction of its new LED chip production plant in Penang, Malaysia. The routine manufacture of LED chips is thus set to run at full speed from now on.

Larson Electronics’ magnalight.com announced the addition of the MRL-1000HPS-EB 1000 watt high pressure sodium (HPS) light with remote ballast. Equipped with remote ballast, this HPS saltwater certified light is much lighter than traditional high wattage fixtures. AIXTRON AG announced today that in the second quarter 2009 HUGA Co., Ltd placed an order for six AIX 2800G4 HT MOCVD reactors in the 42x2 inch configuration. Avago Technologies, a supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, announced an innovative ultra-thin, high brightness, light guide film (LGF) technology for backlighting mobile applications such as cell phones, handheld games and GPS applications. According to the company, the new light guide technology will help designers reduce the number of LEDs needed to illuminate backlit keypad applications without compromising brightness and light uniformity.
