The top U.S. chemicals manufacturer Dow Chemical Co. will invest US$45 million to build a plant producing key electronic materials - LED and display panel components in South Korea and the facility will be located in the city of Cheonan, 92 kilometers south of Seoul. Dow Chemical has signed a memorandum of understanding with the governments of South Chungcheong Province and the city of Cheonan. Dow notes that construction for the plant will begin in October and would be completed in 2015.

Sharp Corporation is following up its LED lamps with another mainstay of residential lighting by introducing six models of industry-first LED ceiling lights into the Japanese market. Using Sharp’s proprietary light diffusion technology, these ceiling lights achieve a thin design that is 43 mm at the thickest part and just 8 mm at the thinnest.

High Score Corporation has entered into a licensing agreement to develop a line of Energy Saving LED Street Lights and Parking Lot Lights with NexPhase Lighting. In spite of earnest efforts on the part of management this funding has not fully materialized. As a result, the previous President of the company, Dror Svorai, stepped down from his position as CEO and created an LED Lighting Factory.

JP Sercel Associates, Inc. (JPSA) a leading manufacturer of laser micromachining systems for LED production, announced that the Korean Intellectual Property Tribunal ruled in favor of claimant JPSA, invalidating two of QMC’s Korean patents dealing with scribing and LLO. The invalidated Patents are No. 724540, “Laser Beam transmission system and method of the same and lift-off process method,” and No. 588459, “An adjustable laser beam delivery system and method for forming the same.”  Patent No.

AIXTRON AG announced a new order for one AIX 200, 1x2 inch configuration deposition system from the Pontificial Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Brazil. The new system will be delivered and installed at the Semiconductor Laboratory (LabSem) of the University.

Chemtura Organometallics GmbH of Bergkamen, Germany, a subsidiary of US-based specialty chemical manufacturer Chemtura Corp. announces that the company will further expand Bergkamen plant to provide a sustainable supply for tomorrow's global customer requirements of the specialty chemicals trimethylaluminum (TMA), methylaluminoxane (MAO), and diethylzinc (DEZ).

LED lighting company Cree announced that the company has supplied the most energy-efficient LED downlights to Home Depot for sale online. The price for the lights, available under Home Depot's EcoSmart brand, is $49.95, and is targeted to be available in nearly 2,000 The Home Depot retail stores in fall 2010.

Veeco Instruments Inc. announced that it has agreed to sell its Metrology business to Bruker Corporation (Nasdaq: BRKR), a leading provider of high-performance scientific instruments and solutions for molecular and materials research, for $229 million in cash. The transaction has been approved by the Board of Directors of both companies and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2010, pending regulatory review and subject to customary closing conditions.

AIXTRON AG announced that in the second quarter Philips Lumileds Lighting Company, a world leading manufacturer of high-power light emitting diodes (LEDs) and a solid-state lighting industry pioneer, has placed a repeat order for multiple AIX 2800G4 HT MOCVD reactors which will be used for the production of its LUXEON power LEDs.

The new assignment further strengthens the company's international senior management team and ensures continuing improvement of its efforts to expand in the LED lighting markets.

Veeco Instruments Inc. announced that Elec-Tech International has selected its TurboDisc(R) K465i MOCVD systems as their "tool of choice" for two new LED factories in Wuhu and Yangzhou, China. In August Veeco booked the initial systems from a large multi-tool purchase order from Elec-Tech's LED subsidiary, Elec-Tech Optoelectronic Technology (Wuhu) Co., Ltd.

AIXTRON AG announced a substantial multiple order for additional MOCVD tools from Yangzhou Longyao, a LED manufacturing company in Yangzhou, PR China. Yangzhou Longyao is a subsidiary of Rainbow Optoelectronics Material Shanghai Co. Ltd., China, a long time customer of AIXTRON MOCVD equipment.

Collaboration will strengthen market penetration in Asia, Europe and US Oree Inc., developer of LED planar illumination technology, announced today that it has secured an investment from Epistar Corporation, Taiwan’s largest manufacturer of LED chips. The funding is a demonstration of the strong strategic relationship between the two companies.

TSMC recently held a meeting of the Board of Directors, which passed the following resolutions:  1. Approved capital appropriations of US$1,972.3 million to expand advanced process technology capacity at 12-inch fabs. 2. Approved capital appropriations of US$369 million to continue construction of Fab 15. 3. Approved capital appropriations of US$258.1 million to provide specialty technology capacity.

Cyberlux Corporation announced that the Company has produced and shipped the first order from Sierra Nevada Corporation for the Cyberlux LED Hardened Shelter Lighting solution. Sierra Nevada uses five 24” Cyberlux HSL fixtures in the delivery of the Humvee-based mobile command and control centers produced for the U.S. Military.

AIXTRON AG announced an order for three mass production MOCVD systems for GaN HB-LED production from the INCOTEX Group, a new AIXTRON customer in Bulgaria. INCOTEX placed the order in the first quarter of 2010 and the systems will be delivered from the third quarter of 2010 onwards. The local AIXTRON Europe support team will commission the new reactors at the company’s purposebuilt facility in Bulgaria.

Lighthouse Technologies of Irvine, CA, USA announced that its video screen products feature Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA. According to the firm, 65% or more of its product components are sourced from US-based companies.

Dialight announced that the city of Spokane, Washington has completed the installation of 132 of the company’s ITE-compliant LED pedestrian countdown timers to improve crosswalk safety and comply with the latest requirements in the U.S. Dept. of Transportation Federal Highways Administration’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

Cree partnerships with Habitat for Humanity of Durham to light up the construction on the world's first Habitat for Humanity house with its newest LED downlight, the CR6™ downlight and other LED products. It's said that, compared with traditional lighting, the LED lighting in this house is projected to save approximately $250 worth of electricity costs per year .

To serve as a single platform to address the issues of the growing industry and to make people aware of the future lighting technology, Indian LED manufacturers have joined force with M V Ramana Rao, chairman and managing director of MIC Electronics Ltd as its president to set up LED products Manufacturers Association (LEDMA).   It said that the industry has boasted a collective turnover of about Rs. 5,000 crores in India, so LEDMA hope to draw the attention of the Government and public to strengthen and develop the LED industry.
