A distinctive trend in the Thai LED market reflected at EcoLightTech Asia 2014 was the lack of LED chip, driver and component manufacturers, and the overly dominant presence of LED luminaire manufacturers and traders.

Creating comfort through light in an office environment is an important design aspect for lighting manufacturers. Designing anti-glare and flicker free lighting is an area all manufactures can agree on. Exterior appearance, however, is where it differs. 

In the outdoor lighting sector, manufacturers mostly emphasized luminous efficacy and light shape, due to advancements in LED technology and luminous efficacy at Light+Building 2014 that took place from March 31 to April 4, 2014 at Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Center in Germany.

Taiwan LED manufacturers were very active at this year’s Light+Building 2014 show that took place in Frankfurt, Germany last week. The main theme of Taiwanese manufacturers at the show was LED technology. Some major technology highlights included flip chip LED, Alternating Current (AC) Driver-on-Board (DoB) Chip-on-Board (COB) modules.

China has been a major player on the global stage for quite some time. It therefore comes as no surprise that the country’s many lighting manufacturers would be at the Light+Building 2014 show organized by Messe Frankfurt in full force last week. 

Smart lighting has become the trump card  for manufactures who want to give themselves an edge in the market. Large manufacturers including Philips, Osram, Samsung, and LG all showcased their newest smart lighting products at Light+Building 2014. Korean manufacturers including Samsung, LG, Seoul Semiconductor, Woree and Lumens were huddled in Hall 6 of Light + Building 2014 show that recently took place in Frankfurt, Germany. These Korean manufacturers displayed their latest LED packages, LED smart controllers, and new OLED products.

Located at Hall 4.0, lampholder and connector manufacturer BJB displayed its latest connectors, lampholders and automated equipment, at Light + Building 2014 in Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Center in Germany. 

Toshiba highlighted several Chip Scale Package products  at the  Light + Building 2014 show that runs from March 31 to April 4, 2014 at Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Center in Germany.

Philips presented its smart Hue bulb range, OLED panels, and various mart lighting technologies at at Light +Building 2014, which runs from March 31 to April 4, 2014 at Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Center in Frankfurt, Germany.LEDinside Research Director Roger Chu noted while the lighting giant’s booth was less impressive than last year the company was sending a clear message to consumers with its product portfolio choice. “Philips product portfolio showcased this year sends a clear message to consumers about the company’s ambition in presenting future lighting technologies,” said Chu.

As smart lighting becomes a major trend in the lighting industry this year, it is no surprise that Panasonic’s smart LED lighting system, Symphony Lighting, caught the attention of many visitors at the recent Taiwan International Lighting Show (TILS) 2014.

Long lifespan is one of the main selling points for LED bulbs, but it could also be their downfall. As market penetration rate rises and more people are willing to adopt LEDs, the market will become saturated. With such a long lifespan, there will be less need to buy new bulbs and manufacturers will lose business. Manufacturers are now starting to turn towards smart lighting to keep consumers coming back.

Lighting Japan 2014, an event organized by Reed Exhibition’s Japan arm that ran from Jan. 15-17 at Tokyo Big Sight successfully concluded on the 17th. The three day lighting show has attracted over 9,000 international and domestic visitors during the first two days.
